Dear friends!
The
word "fringe" has several meanings in the English
language. Concerning the name of a theatre festival it unites
theatres which are not included into the main theatre stream.
There is a system of Fringe festivals in the world which unites
young, experimental, daring theatre groups, creating their own
performances using the principle of creative opposition to the
traditional theatre.
"Perm
Fringe festival" has begun its history in Perm since 1988,
when some art-advisers of young theatres and theatre schools
decided to unite into Association of nongovernmental theatres
of Prikamye and organize their own festival. Since then this
theatre forum became an annual one (except little interval from
1997 to 1999). During different periods participants of the
festival excepting theatres of Perm and Perm Region were theatres
from Japan, Holland, Great Britain, Italy, Poland, and also
some theatres from Moscow, Saratov, St-Petersburg, Izhevsk,
Ekaterinburg, Kurgan, Kemerovo (among them there is a holder
of the "Golden mask" prize - Evgeny Grishkovetz).
In 2000 owing to support of Perm Region Administration, Theatre
Workers' Union of Russia and "University" Fund the
festival was revived.
In
2002 "Perm Fringe festival" will take place from 10
th till 16 th of July. The festival has its own traditions.
Besides viewing of performances of participants there are also
creative laboratories for actors and advisers of theatre groups,
master-classes of theatre specialists, discussions of performances
by dramatic critics. The "Festival club" with specially
prepared programs and concert parties works every evening. Participation
of theatres in imposing carnival procession on the 12th of June
(Perm-city Day) is one of the most impressive festival events.
The
festival is conducted according to the three categories:
A
- nongovernmental theatres (municipal, contract, privet theatrical
enterprises);
B
- amateur and student theatres;
C
- children's and school theatres.
Festival
performances are evaluated by competent jury which includes
authoritative theatre specialists from Moscow and some other
cities of Russia. At the end of the festival the laureates in
each category are awarded according to several nominations:
the best performance, the best producer, the best scenario,
the best man's and woman's role.
